Complete Indian Skincare Routine — Morning & Night, Every Skin Type
📅 April 2026⏱ 8 min read🇮🇳 Built for Indian skin
The order you apply skincare products matters as much as the products themselves. Apply in the wrong order and serums cannot reach the skin cells they are meant to treat. Apply in the right order and every product works significantly better.
This guide gives you the exact morning and night routine steps for every Indian skin type — with timing, the correct amount of each product, and what to never mix together.
The Golden Rule — Thinnest to Thickest
Always layer skincare from the most watery, thinnest consistency to the richest, thickest. This ensures each layer can penetrate without being blocked by heavier products above it.
Complete Morning Routine (AM)
Cleanser — Wash face with lukewarm water and face wash suited to your skin type. Lather for 60 seconds, rinse thoroughly. Pat dry — never rub.
Toner (optional) — Rose water or pH-balancing toner. Apply with cotton pad or spritz. Removes last traces of water minerals from tap water.
Vitamin C Serum — 3-4 drops, pressed gently into skin. Provides antioxidant protection for the day ahead. Wait 30-60 seconds.
Niacinamide or other serum — 3-4 drops. Wait 30-60 seconds to absorb.
Eye Cream (optional) — Dab gently around orbital bone with ring finger. Never rub.
Moisturiser — Gel for oily skin, lotion or cream for dry. Apply to slightly damp skin.
Sunscreen — SPF 50 minimum. Apply 1/4 teaspoon (two-finger rule). This is the most important step. Never skip.
Complete Night Routine (PM)
Double Cleanse — Micellar water first to remove sunscreen and pollution. Then regular face wash. Single cleanse at night is often insufficient to fully remove SPF.
Toner (optional) — Same as morning routine.
Treatment Serum — Retinol, salicylic acid, or azelaic acid (choose one). Night is when skin repairs itself — actives work most effectively.
Niacinamide — If not used in morning, can be used at night instead. Helps repair barrier overnight.
Moisturiser — Slightly richer formula than morning is fine at night.
Face Oil (dry skin only) — 2-3 drops pressed into moisturiser for extra nourishment. Oily skin should skip this.
💡 Weekly Schedule — Adding Treatments
Monday/Thursday: Salicylic acid or AHA exfoliant at night Tuesday/Friday: Retinol (if using) at night Sunday: Multani mitti or clay mask (10-15 minutes) Active treatments should not be used every night — they need recovery time between applications.
What NOT to Mix on the Same Day
Retinol + Vitamin C: Use on alternate days or different times
Retinol + AHA/BHA: Never same application — severe irritation
Vitamin C + AHA/BHA: pH conflict, reduces effectiveness
Multiple actives at once: Max 2 actives per routine
The Minimum Effective Routine — 3 Products Only
If you are just starting out or don't want a complex routine, these 3 products are all you need:
Face wash matched to your skin type — ₹130 to ₹350
Lightweight moisturiser — ₹249 to ₹499
SPF 50 sunscreen (morning only) — ₹249 to ₹399
Add serums only when you are consistent with these 3 for at least 4 weeks. Complexity is not necessary — consistency is.
Complete Budget Routine — Under ₹1,000

Morning: 5-8 minutes. Night: 8-12 minutes. If your routine takes longer, you are probably using too many products. A focused 5-step routine done consistently will always outperform a 15-step routine done inconsistently.
Yes, slightly different. Morning routine focuses on protection — antioxidants (Vitamin C) and SPF. Night routine focuses on treatment and repair — actives like retinol, AHAs, BHAs. Some products like niacinamide and moisturiser are used both morning and night.
Oiliness and texture improve within 2-4 weeks. Dark spots start fading at 6-8 weeks. Significant brightening and even skin tone at 3 months. Visible anti-aging effects from retinol at 4-6 months. Consistency matters more than any single product.
You can skip serums occasionally, but never skip SPF (morning) and cleanser+moisturiser (morning and night). These are non-negotiable minimum steps. Skipping SPF even once can create UV damage that takes months to reverse.
